Make Sure These 4 Things Are On Your Nonprofit's Website

Clearly displaying details about your nonprofit on its website is one of the simplest ways to ensure donors can easily make contributions to your organization. While some of these details seem obvious, they can easily be forgotten as organizations carry out their mission.

Make sure these details are clearly visible somewhere on the home page:

  1. Exact legal name as listed with the IRS

  2. 501(c)(3) status

  3. Current mailing address as registered with the IRS

  4. Employer Identification Number (EIN)

To receive certain forms of donations, like donor-advised funds (DAFs), DAF sponsors will search for these items on a nonprofit’s website to confirm eligibility requirements. That’s why it’s also prudent to make sure nonprofit database profiles, like Candid, are up to date.

Make sure the organization’s name and address appear exactly as they are registered with the IRS, too. A simple difference, like using “&” instead of “and” can stall important funds from reaching your organization. A mistake in your address can mean a donation by check never actually reaches where it’s meant to go. This happens more often than we might think.

DAF donations ramp up in Q4 as donors approach the deadline for charitable contributions to qualify as tax deductions. Ensuring these details are clearly displayed on your organization’s website can mean some of the easiest funds your organization ever receives, especially as we approach the end of the tax year.
